Barbie Ball Gown January 17, 2011

In a previous post I mentioned that I wanted to make a Barbie ball gown out of some leftover velvet. It proved to be harder than I thought it would be. The little scraps of velvet were really hard to work with. When I would sew a seam, it was as if I were perforating the material, and it immediately tore all along the stitching. I gave up for a while and finally got back to it this past week.

I wouldn’t recommend using velvet for this kind of project. I wonder, in hindsight, if it would’ve been easier if I had sewn in another direction on the fabric. Perhaps it had something to do with the grainline of the velvet.

If you’d like to make this dress with another fancy kind of fabric (it’s a great tutorial!), click here. Jessica has lots of other great tutorials for Barbie clothes too!
